Every year, Breckenridge embraces the spirit of winter with a variety of unique and fun events!
The Lighting of Breckenridge & Race of the Santas
Early December
Each year on the first Saturday of December, locals and visitors celebrate the start of the holiday season in Breckenridge by lighting up the town. This free, fantastic family event is not to be missed!
Also part of the festivities is the Race of the Santas. A newer tradition where hundreds of runners dressed up as Santa race down Main Street in hopes of winning prizes.
Ullr Fest
Late December
Ullr Fest has been going on in Breckenridge for over 50 years and is a favorite festival for locals and visitors alike. This event is a week-long celebration to call on the Norse god of snow in hopes of a good winter.
Come ready to break the unofficial world record for longest shot ski. Wear your finest Viking hat and witness more than 12,000 Ullr enthusiasts fill the town for the Ullr Parade on Main Street.
While Breckenridge is known for its unmatched ski resort, this town has plenty more to offer during the winter months!
Snowshoeing
Hiking might not be the first thing that comes to mind when dreaming about winter in Breckenridge. However, there are many trails that are still accessible by foot in the winter. Depending on the weather, a stroll through the woods in the middle of winter can be quite the magical experience.
Fat Tire Biking
If you’re looking for an activity off the mountain, fat biking is for you! Access trails in a new way by gliding over the packed snow on 4.8″ width tires. This is a growing trend in Breckenridge, and an eco friendly way to travel around town. Visit the Gold Run Nordic Center for rentals and accessible trails.
